Christian Trivia Question #3 - INRI

In many paintings of Jesus on the Cross, the acronym "INRI" is written on a piece of wood tacked onto the Cross over His head.
1. What does it stand for?
2. According to John's Gospel, who wanted it there, and who didn't?

  1. From Bill:
    King of the Jews (sarcastically)

Not sure who wanted it there and who didn't

  2. On the right track Bill. But how do you get that out of "I, N, R, I"? Hint: they didn't speak English back then. And John's Gospel tells you who wanted it and who didn't.

  3. From Mom:
INRI stems from the Latin phrase 'Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum' meaning 'Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews'. This was the notice Pontius Pilate nailed over Jesus as he lay dying on the cross
